Repair Hard Drive
Repairing Your Hard Drive May Not Be The Problem
Did you know that some errors that appear to require repair to hard drive components may actually be misleading signals.
For instance, an error reports that the hard drive cannot be found. You check the cables and make sure that they are seated properly. You also check to see that the hard drive does indeed power up when the computer is turned on. So you conclude that it is a failed hard drive. That's logical. However, I have found cases where it wasn't the hard drive at all. In one particular case, the BIOS settings were reset to default by some unknown reason. It could be due to a lost of power to the CMOS. In this case, the default config is for RAID configuration not simple IDE drive configuration. So the computer did not see a hard drive not because it was in need of hard drive repair but because the BIOS was trying to read the RAID connectors instead of the IDE connectors.
